First Things First

Worship at First

At the First Baptist Church of Erwin, worship is deepened and enhanced by the beauty of God's Creation here in beautiful Erwin, and the sweeping, modernist sanctuary where we offer ourselves to God as a congregation.

In worship, we sing hymns to God accompanied by piano, organ, and choir; listen to special musical offerings; discover Scripture readings from both the Old and New Testaments; pray for each other, our community and our world; and hear a message by our pastor. From time to time, we celebrate God's grace and redemptive power through Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

Worship is carefully planned in order to connect the elements of the service with the context of the world in which we live and our church's and community's rich history to engage congregants in new ways.

What to Expect

What should I wear?

Please wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable to worship.  No matter how you choose to dress, we will accept you with open arms.  On any given Sunday, you may find people wearing jeans and shorts and others wearing suits and dresses.

How long do services last?
Worship lasts about an hour on Sunday morning, and about as long on Wednesday evenings.

What do you believe?
Life at First Baptist Church is shaped by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  We are called to worship God, share the Good News, foster spiritual growth, and meet the needs of those who have less and are hurting.  In every action as a church, it is our passion to be God’s servants.  We hope to cheerfully give our time, abilities, and gifts – both spiritual and physical – that others may know Christ’s love.

Parking

First Baptist welcomes you to worship with us each Sunday.  While parking is available, as a downtown church, demand may exceed supply, especially at holiday services.  Please also note that there are no specially-designated member or visitor parking areas; we welcome you to park where you wish and join us.

Street Parking
There are a few parallel street parking spaces along South Main Street adjacent to the west door to the historic Chapel.  None of the city's street spaces are metered.

Parking Lots

The church has two paved parking lots:

North Lot

Corner of Main and Love facing the church

East Lot

Fenced lot beside the Sanctuary.  This lot is reserved for those who have differing abilities and may need special assistance accessing the building.

Special Needs

The East Lot is reserved for those visitors who have special accessibility needs.  To access these spaces, please plan on arriving at 10:45a so that, if you require assistance, someone will be on hand to help.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call the church on 423/743-9156.
